I was away on the 07.12 train today, which was a bit of a stretch. Why? Was I on my way up for a fantastic ski? (No, it\u2019s far too busy, and it hasn\u2019t snowed for over a fortnight). Rather less glamorously, I need to shampoo our carpets. Most Swiss homes have hard floors, but ours is carpeted almost throughout, so instead of a quick mop, they need a proper clean every so often to keep them sweet-smelling. I whizzed round the Co-op in record time, and acquired the necessary chemicals and a few bits of food. Interlaken Ost railway station is just opposite the supermarket, and on my return these Korean newlyweds on platform 4 were happy to pose for photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After offering my congratulations I jumped on the train back up the valley. I was back in Wengen for about quarter past nine – plenty of time to clean the carpets within the day. Ski school starts at 9.30. Here’s the queue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s probably the busiest day of the season, and I’m happy to be scrubbing carpets instead of competing for space up the hill with the holidaymakers.
