The line cost a staggering 3.5 million Swiss Francs and was opened in 1893. The rolling stock is all original, with the exception of the engines which were replaced in 1914 when the line was electrified.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-1464876713.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-1464876713.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4294 alignnone size-full\" width=\"3000\" height=\"1719\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The line begins at Wilderswil and the little engines push the trains up the mountain. Progress is slow, but relentless.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-2003626002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-2003626002.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4295 alignnone size-full\" width=\"2991\" height=\"1890\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The station at the top is very quaint.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-586135458.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-586135458.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4296 alignnone size-full\" width=\"3000\" height=\"1901\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the summit of the mountain is a huge bowl with a network of footpaths.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-1120149926.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-1120149926.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4297 alignnone size-full\" width=\"3000\" height=\"1763\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scary viewpoint down to lake Thun almost a mile below us.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-2038063424.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-2038063424.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4298 alignnone size-full\" width=\"3000\" height=\"2051\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And lake Brienz and Interlaken.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-1339433178.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wp-image-1339433178.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4299 alignnone size-full\" width=\"3000\" height=\"1865\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>View back towards Wengen from the station.
