Firstly, here\u2019s a view of this great metropolis from the top of the nursery slope.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/12032201.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"12032201\" border=\"0\" alt=\"12032201\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/12032201_thumb.jpg\" width=\"804\" height=\"536\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you want to ski back to the nursery slope from the higher pistes (and you do, because it is surrounded by bars), you have to ski down a slope through a tunnel under the railway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/12032202.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"12032202\" border=\"0\" alt=\"12032202\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/12032202_thumb.jpg\" width=\"804\" height=\"536\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After the tunnel there\u2019s a road. After the road there\u2019s a short incline onto the nursery slope \u2013 so you need to go fast. So as you pass under the tunnel there are 2 things on your mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>will there be any snow on the road? Because if there isn\u2019t, my skis will stop, I won\u2019t, and I\u2019ll end up in a heap,<\/li>\n<li>will there be any traffic on the road? There\u2019s no way of knowing this as you emerge from the tunnel, and it\u2019s way too late to stop.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/12032203.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"12032203\" border=\"0\" alt=\"12032203\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/12032203_thumb.jpg\" width=\"804\" height=\"536\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As, you can see, the guy in red has been pretty lucky on both counts.<\/p>\n<p>600 metres below Wengen in Lauterbrunnen, summer is fast approaching. There\u2019s no way to ski all the way down here, so the train brings dozens of sweaty skiers down from Wengen. Lots of people stay in Lauterbrunnen; it\u2019s much cheaper than Wengen and it has lots of places to stay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/12032204.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"12032204\" border=\"0\" alt=\"12032204\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/12032204_thumb.jpg\" width=\"804\" height=\"536\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Back in Wengen, here\u2019s Sina\u2019s pub &amp; restaurant, scene of many a jolly evening out, and home of the best ribs &amp; chicken in the Alps. It gets awful reviews on Tripadvisor, but everyone here seems to really like the place.
