We ate at Dick &#038; Will&#8217;s restaurant, which has a wonderful waterside deck. It wasn&#8217;t getting much use.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-154033.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-154033.jpg\" alt=\"20120603-154033.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This morning we woke to drizzle and low cloud. An inland walk seemed the best option. The rowers weren&#8217;t put off however.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-154257.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-154257.jpg\" alt=\"20120603-154257.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We head inland from Shadycombe towards Higher Batson and Horsecombe. The footpath verges on the extreme in places!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-154540.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-154540.jpg\" alt=\"20120603-154540.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Eventually we cross the main road and arrive in Malborough. In every village we have seen scarecrows. The local school is running a competition &#8211; each scarecrow represents a children&#8217;s story, and if you can name them all you win cream teas for 6 at a the Soar Mill Cove hotel. Can you guess this one?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-155019.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-155019.jpg\" alt=\"20120603-155019.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lovely old cottage (offers in the region of \u00a32 million) at Coombe on the way down to South Sands.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-155305.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-155305.jpg\" alt=\"20120603-155305.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>World&#8217;s biggest rhubarb? This stuff grows along the stream that runs down the valley. It is at least ten feet tall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-155616.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-155616.jpg\" alt=\"20120603-155616.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weather stayed dry, but it was too chilly to tempt many people into the water at North Sands.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-155946.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mikeeasley.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/20120603-155946.jpg\" alt=\"20120603-155946.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ruin of Fort Charles. The Royalists withstood a long siege during the civil war, but were eventually overcome.
