Happy couple

I was away on the 07.12 train today, which was a bit of a stretch. Why? Was I on my way up for a fantastic ski? (No, it’s far too busy, and it hasn’t snowed for over a fortnight). Rather less glamorously, I need to shampoo our carpets. Most Swiss homes have hard floors, but ours is carpeted almost throughout, so instead of a quick mop, they need a proper clean every so often to keep them sweet-smelling. I whizzed round the Co-op in record time, and acquired the necessary chemicals and a few bits of food. Interlaken Ost railway station is just opposite the supermarket, and on my return these Korean newlyweds on platform 4 were happy to pose for photos.

After offering my congratulations I jumped on the train back up the valley. I was back in Wengen for about quarter past nine – plenty of time to clean the carpets within the day. Ski school starts at 9.30. Here’s the queue.

It’s probably the busiest day of the season, and I’m happy to be scrubbing carpets instead of competing for space up the hill with the holidaymakers. It’s not their fault they all come this week – it’s school holidays, and if they want to take their kids skiing they have little choice.
