Föhn

We’ve been very lucky with the weather this season, with lots of snow and some lovely sunny days. Today however, we have a föhn storm. The föhn is a warm wind that blows over the mountains from the south. It’s strong enough to close the ski lifts and even stop the trains running.

The effects of the föhn don’t end there. It can give you a headache and it makes people grumpy. Worse still, it melts the snow. By around midday just about everyone was back in the village. These snowboarders were some of the last to get back.

Several of Val’s colleagues reported being stranded in various places, but everyone eventually got home safely. The nursery slopes were popular this afternoon.

The good news is that these storms usually blow themselves out after a few hours. Fingers crossed.
