We were convinced we’d seen the last of the snow last night – all the forecasts said it would come to an end yesterday afternoon. However, when we’d finished watching our next episode of ‘For All Mankind’ (highly recommended) I looked out of the window and it was snowing hard again.

This morning it was still snowing lightly, but once again the forecasts were optimistic, so we headed for the cable car. The birds have very little to eat when the snow is deep on the ground, so they hang around the cable car station hoping for a few crumbs.

The cable car whisked us up to Männlichen – it rises 1000 metres in just 5 minutes. At the top we couldn’t see a thing through the fog, and it was snowing hard.

Normally in this situation we’d skate across to the restaurant and have a coffee while we hope for an improvement. Today however, with the restaurant closed, low temperatures and driving snow we had little option but to return to the village. At least we tried.
