Rosenlaui

Yesterday we started our walk at Kleine Scheidegg, and today we begin at another mountain pass called Grosse Scheidegg. The bus drops us off and one of the cows gazes down at us.

The path from here occasionally connects with a road which is very popular with cyclists.

The river running down the valley is the Rychenbach. It is the source of the waterfall made famous by Conan Doyle’s novels.

Around 150 years ago the enterprising Swiss built a hotel near the snout of the Rosenlaui glacier. The glacier, needless to say, is long gone, but the elegant hotel still seems to be thriving.

Rosenlaui is the end of our walk, we deserve an ice cream.
