More music

Last night we started with a very nice apero at Anne-Marie and Paul’s place, followed by Colin and Steve again, this time at the Braunbaer. Mike and Bella enjoyed the music.

Val handles social media for the band, and she publishes a video of a song from each gig.

The weather was gloomy again today, but we did get up to the village for a coffee before lunch.

Happy birthday Julie

We had a good party in Rocks last night, with Colin and Steve providing the entertainment.

Wil came over from Grindelwald, and we had our traditional fish & chips takeaway dinner.

Today has been murky and wet. We met Michael for lunch in the Crystal bar, and later we’re off to Paul and Anne-Marie’s for dinner.

The beginning of the end

Last night we had the usual Sunday singalong with Beves and Ibe at the Braunbaer.

On Mondays we usually have more live music with Colin at the Anonym bar, but the hotel management have closed the bar for the season. It’s a sign of things to come. Wengen is already very quiet – here’s a view of the normally bustling station at midday today. Not a soul in sight.

The nursery slope will soon be a pasture again.

So the skiing season is definitely coming to an end. It’s our anniversary today – 33 years ago we caught the train down to Lauterbrunnen and tied the knot at the registry office. We have a table booked for dinner at the Caprice, which should be lovely.

Storm in the mountains

It’s a nice day down here in Wengen, but up at Kleine Scheidegg a storm is raging.

We had a walk out towards Innerwengen. A stream cascades down through the forest on the way.

It’s warm enough for farm animals to enjoy the sunshine. Goats.

And Llamas.

Nice views back towards Wengen.

A glimpse of our house (red shutters) through the trees.

A nice walk on a lovely afternoon.

Sahara sand

It’s another bright day and very warm, but the wind is blowing from a long way south, bringing with it sand and dust from the Sahara desert. We went down to Interlaken to get food and to refresh Val’s rapidly dwindling stock of Prosecco. In the village work on the church continues apace.

The huge metal cross that crowns the spire has been taken away by helicopter for refurbishment.

Warm

It’s another lovely day, and we were up early to enjoy the best snow conditions at Scheidegg.

The skiing was more or less perfect for the first few hours, and the runs were very quiet.

Soon the temperatures began to rise, and the sun started to take its toll on the snow. In cold weather snow sticks to your skis, but today the warm sunshine quickly melts it away.

We had a leisurely coffee stop before returning to Wengen. This afternoon the temperature in the village got up to 16 degrees – it’s t-shirt weather. It’s still March though, and winter often reappears at this time of year, so we don’t take the sunshine for granted.
