Happy New Year

Lots happening in the village, here is our local band ‘Hamschter’  playing on the ice rink this afternoon.

But the biggest news of all is that the weather forecast was right, and it’s started to snow. It’s amazing how the whole atmosphere changes whenever this happens in a ski resort.

As you will have gathered, I have acquired a new memory card for the phone.

Last sunny day

Another beautiful day today, but sadly the last for a while as it’s forecast to get cold and snowy from tomorrow. We did go for a walk today, and we got lots of nice pictures, but my phone decided to eat its memory card this afternoon so they’re all gone. Wengen is probably the worst place on the planet to buy a memory card (incredibly expensive) but I’ll have to get one tomorrow to photograph the high jinks tomorrow night.

Bond. James Bond

The new Bond film ‘Spectre’ had its premier at our cinema tonight. The film is worth watching, but what made the evening special was the atmosphere in the cinema. It seats about 200 people, and to cope with the demand they found lots of extra fold-up chairs. When these were all taken people simply sat on the floor! Before the film we had a talk from the 007 stunt co-ordinator who happens to live in Wengen. He gave away all the secrets of how the action scenes were done and was very entertaining.

Grindelwald

Off to Grindelwald today to see how their side of the mountain is doing. To get there we first go up to Kleine Scheidegg, where it is gloomy and absolutely rammed with skiers.

image

Then we take another train down to the next valley. Ribbons of man made snow on the sunny side of the hill, but quite a few people skiing on them.

image

At the bottom of the valley, Grindelwald is really wintry. They only get an hour of sunshine each day at this time of year.

image

We walk up through freezing Grindelwald and catch a gondola up the other side of the valley. It’s soon like summer again as we are lifted out of the gloomy village.

Up at the top the snow isn’t brilliant, but plenty of people are having fun.

Favourite day of winter

Today we’re off to Beanie & Sandro’s. This is always a really good day as the kids have lots of presents, and it’s all very festive.
Weather’s been very warm lately, so we fire up the barbecue.

Aliena and Larena having great fun.

Later we walk up to the village. Really busy today, this will be the most hectic week of the season. Alphorns playing on the Eigerhubel.
