Farewell, for now

Elaine & Amy left us this morning, but they’ll be back in February so that Amy can have a go at skiing. Last night we went to the Caprice for pizza, followed by watching the boys at the Sunstar. Val is doing her social network stuff for them.

Today was quiet, Val went to the gym and I went running. We ate the last of the leftover barbecue food for dinner.

Fun in Grindelwald

This morning we start up at Männlichen. Here’s Amy with some calves.

Views back to Wengen and Lauterbrunnen from the viewpoint.

Amy climbed the giant cow.

…and came down the easy way on the slide.

We caught the gondola down to Grindelwald. There’s lots to do here.

Up at Pfingstegg there’s an all-weather toboggan run. We met Val’s colleague Will and he took Amy for a go.

Next it’s a run on a zipwire through the forest. Amy sets off.

And here she comes – the zipwire returns customers to the top.

Here’s Will – making sure Amy doesn’t have any mishaps on the way.

We had thunderstorms on the way home, and we’re still trying to decide whether to go out for a drink later.

Busy busy busy

I have a packed itinerary today. First stop is the doctors to see whether my efforts to reduce my blood pressure have borne fruit (I’m doing too well, as it’s now a bit low). Next I’m due a run in the valley, and after that I need to go to Interlaken for shopping, as we’re having a barbecue this evening.

While all this was going on, Val, Elaine and Amy were up at Scheidegg exploring.

They ended up at Brandegg for lunch. Looks like they had better weather in the Grindelwald valley than we have over here this afternoon. Anyhow, must dash – guests arriving soon and we’re expecting a lot of people.

Wet day

Wet, as in there was a lot of water involved. We start with a cruise over to Iseltwald on the steamer.

We had a good look around the village, and ate our sandwiches. The bus picked us up and took us to the beach at Bönigen. There’s a pool here, and Amy has her swimming stuff.

It’s a warm day, so Val had a dip too.

There are things to jump off in the lake; splash!

Schilthorn

This morning we got the bus to Stechelberg. Four cable cars later we were at Piz Gloria on the summit of the Schilthorn. The 1969 James Bond film ‘On Her Majesties Secret Service’ was made here, so naturally we start with a James Bond Brunch in the revolving restaurant.

Later we had a look around the museum, which houses some of the props from the film. Here’s Amy in the helicopter.

And in James’ bobsleigh.

One cable car down the mountain from the Schilthorn is a place called Birg. High adrenaline stuff is available here, Amy and Elaine are amusing themselves walking on a see-through grid with a drop of a few thousand feet down into the valley.

Eventually we reach the village of Mürren, where we stop for a drink. Lots of very old buildings and mountain flowers here.

A good day out.

Visitors

Elaine and Amy have come to stay for the week. They arrived last night, and this afternoon we had a walk out to Innerwengen.

At the end of the path is a chairlift. It whisks us up the hill to Allmend. Amy was allowed on for nothing.

The restaurant at Allmend is a lovely spot for a cold drink and ice cream.

Uptown Lights at the Sunstar later.

New shoes

Val is visiting the gym down in Wilderswil quite regularly now. She’s bought some bright, new gym shoes.

Wilderswil is a very old village. No balconies on these houses – they were purely functional.

Steve and Colin playing at the Sunstar last night, whilst Val and Sarah sit and chat.
