Rain

Colin played at the Alpine hotel last night. A guy in the audience made a sketch of him while he was playing. It’s pretty good, and Colin was delighted with it.

This morning I was out early for my run. I went right to the end of the bus route at Stechelberg as I wanted to run the whole length of the valley. This sign always makes me smile – I didn’t see the ‘slow cat’ this morning. I had a super run in the sunshine.

This afternoon Val was off to the hairdressers as we planned to go out for dinner tonight. While she was being coloured and trimmed the weather completely changed, and she faced a walk home in a thunderstorm. The tennis courts were awash, and Wengen was suddenly deserted.

The rain continued well into the evening, but a nice dinner made up for it.

Lots of live music

Beves and Ibe played for us at the Alpine Hotel last night. It was still twilight when we left. A view to the Jungfrau.

Tonight it was Colin’s turn to entertain in Rocks. We have a lot of American guests this summer, and they loved his mix of country rock.

The summer weather continues. More running tomorrow in the heat.

Lake Brienz – complete!

We’re aiming to complete our walk around Lake Brienz today. We start by getting the train to Brienz, from where the lovely old paddle steamer ‘Lötschberg’ picks us up.

We pass the waterfall at Giessbach.

Looking down into the engine room.

The boat drops us off at the village of Iseltwald.

The Korean TV fans are still paying 5 francs to get photos on the jetty made famous by the series ‘Crash Landing On You’. We decided to watch the series to find out what all the fuss was about, and I have to admit it’s very good.

Our walk takes us high above the lake, back towards Interlaken. It was a lot tougher than I expected.

Eventually we reach the village of Bönigen, and that completes our tour of Lake Brienz.

The whole thing was about 45 kilometres, and we enjoyed some lovely scenery. Here’s today’s route.

Tonight we’re off to the Caprice for dinner.

Eye test

We had a good night at the Alpine Hotel yesterday, with Colin providing the entertainment. Nice view of the new moon and Venus on the way home.

Today I was out early for my run. After a quick lunch I was off down to Interlaken for my final eye examination. Everything is fine, and my eyesight is wonderful.

A walk before the rain

We arrived back in Wengen on Monday evening, after a journey beset by delays. Yesterday was spent getting the house in order for summer, but today we can get out in the open air. The Swiss forecast says rain from midday, whilst the BBC say it should stay dry until three. We head up to Männlichen.

We haven’t been up here since my accident in March – by the time my ribs had healed Männlichen had closed. It’s a pleasant morning, warm and a little hazy. There’s still lots of snow alongside the path.

The walk around to Scheidegg is very relaxed. The Eiger is ever present above us.

Eventually we reach Kleine Scheidegg, where a train is waiting to take us back down to Wengen.

The rain began a little before two. Colin is playing at the Alpine hotel later, so we’ll have a nice night out.
