Finishing off

Parts of the house still look like we only moved in yesterday, so it’s time to have a proper tidy up. We don’t need all 8 dining chairs, so 2 can go in the cellar. My piano can come out of the cellar and go in the red bedroom where we made space yesterday.

Finally, we find homes for all the bags and rucksacks that are lying around the living room. We are tidy at last, which is just as well as Ali and Emily are coming for dinner later.

Snow

For the first time in weeks, we awoke to a village covered in snow.

We have a lot to do today. The red bedroom needs a complete reorganisation so that we can get the piano in there. We’re waiting for our broadband stuff to arrive, so later on we walked over to Ali’s for coffee and internet. It brightened up a little mid-afternoon, the snow down in the valley looks to have melted.

Fingers crossed for a return of the sunshine tomorrow.

Rain

I cooked a Thai curry last night, and we had a few beers.

As expected, the weather has changed today. It’s much colder and raining. Nevertheless we need our walk, so we amble around the village looking in the windows of the closed shops.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it snows tonight. Welcome to summer time!

Weather changing

Fun taking pictures of the train as it passes. Tricky, as you only get 2 chances every hour. It’s amazing how phones can turn night into day.

We had a nice walk along the lower path around to Wengwald. This stream rushes past our house – it’s the one on the right.

It’s nice and bright in Wengen, but things look to be changing. We’ve had no snow for almost a month, so it’ll be strange if we’re plunged back into winter.

Our house is the pub tonight.

Mönchblick

As its name suggests, the Mönchblick is a viewpoint where you can get a glimpse of the Mönch. Off we set. It’s daffodil season.

The goats love a head scratch.

Eventually we arrive at the viewpoint. The Mönch is the snowy peak on the left. It is 4107 metres (13,474 feet) high.

You always find a bench at a viewpoint.

Almost 360 degree views.

We amble home, and I fix a problem with the kitchen sink that’s been bothering me since we moved in.

EasyJet have cancelled our Saturday flight. They try to be helpful by offering me other flights instead, but they’re all cancelled too. Looks like we’re staying.

Deserted Interlaken

We had a very nice Thai curry round at Ali’s last night. We said goodbye to Colin, who has managed to hitch a lift back to the UK with Rich.

This afternoon we popped down to Interlaken. We haven’t been down here for a while, and it’s looking very spring-like.

Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the gardeners to make the town attractive, there are no tourists at all.

We had a nice walk along the river before picking up some shopping at the Co-op. Our trains are only running once an hour now, but we timed it just right and were soon back in Wengen.

More walking

Emily was our guest chef last night; she made us a lovely chicken curry.

Today’s walk takes us high above the village. Barry has joined us.

Crossing the ski run on the way back. There’s still a surprising amount of snow considering the warm weather we’ve been having.

We’re off round to Ali’s for dinner later.
