Rain

I can think of few more depressing things than a ski village in the rain. Nobody wants to go skiing but of course the shops do very well as there’s nothing else to do.

Val had a couple of kids to teach and of course they didn’t mind the rain one bit. My afternoon was spent making a shepherds pie.

Still busy, snow on the way

Sunny but absolutely freezing at minus 11 when we left home this morning. Val was teaching some speedy kids up at Scheidegg whilst I was on the village nursery slope with my beginner Mary-Anne. Val got a nice shot of us as she skied past on the way home.

Wengen is pretty busy at the moment, but according to Ski School there are even more bookings next week. Fingers crossed. We’re due a lot of snow over the next few days too which should bring even more people into the village.

Busy busy

Strange event yesterday evening. We’d noticed from a Facebook post that one of our favourite bands were booked to play at a hotel called the Jungfraublick which is up at the top of the village. This seemed a bit strange as the Jungfraublick is a very quiet hotel – it doesn’t even have a bar. We checked with the manager and sure enough the info was correct. A group of us went to see the gig.

As you can see it wasn’t exactly packed, but we had a great night out.

Uptown Lights were as good as ever. We must have been the smallest audience they’ve ever had.

Nothing much to report from today; it snowed all day and we were both teaching.

Another gloomy day

First concert of the season at the Sunstar last night with Duo Centrale – great stuff. Today is grey and snowy, and it’s windy up at Scheidegg with the higher lifts closed. Val’s new uniform has arrived. Lots of advertising as usual.

Rolf from the tourist office hiked up to the top of the village the other night and got this stunning image. Can you spot our house?

Gloomy, snow on the way

We had a lovely Christmas dinner down at the Zwicky’s last night. No roast turkey, instead a delicious Chinese fondue. Kids trying hard to be angelic in anticipation of the goodies to come.

The principal task for the evening was building Barbie’s fairytale castle. It was pretty impressive.

This morning the clouds had rolled in and it’s getting increasingly windy. Val is teaching on the nursery slope at the moment so I can watch her lesson out of our bedroom window. At least she doesn’t have far to walk home.
