Out like a lamb

March began with a storm, but today the weather is warm and sunny. That means it must be time for the first barbecue of the year. Sandro stokes up the fire.

A few drinks in the sunshine.

Kids enjoying the swings in the garden.

It’s not windy enough to fly a kite, but if you run fast enough it might just work.

A lovely afternoon, in the garden with the best views in the world.

One horse town

Spotted by Ali in the Dorfstrasse yesterday afternoon.

We went for a curry yesterday evening, and this was naturally followed by cocktails in the Tanne bar.

This morning the sun is out again, and it’s warmer than ever. It’s a busy weekend and Val and I both have work. Here’s my group at Scheidegg.

Early start

A quick coffee and croissant and I was off to catch the 8.15 cable car this morning. The weather’s glorious again. Val was working and she followed a little later. A few shots at Männlichen.

We skied around to Scheidegg and stopped for coffee at the bahnhof. As we were sitting on the terrace this little yellow vehicle drove itself out of the engine sheds and parked by our table. It’s a self-driving shunter.

More action, this time on the Lauberhorn.

We stopped for a drink at lunchtime while we waited for Val to arrive after her lesson.

Popped up to Eigergletcher for a bit more skiing, then back to the village.

Cheese

Super raclette at Ali & Clare’s last night. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much cheese.

This morning it’s a beautiful day. A brief pause to wait for Colin at Männlichen.

Glorious views from the top.

The baby lift takes us up the last few metres to our coffee stop at the Berghaus.

A really good morning out.

Cold

It snowed last night, and this morning was cloudy and breezy. Later on the sun put in an appearance, so we headed out for a walk after lunch. It was absolutely freezing. These kids are well wrapped up for their lesson.

The village is quiet, and we noticed that the Hotel Berghaus had closed as we passed by. The others will all follow suit over the next couple of weeks.

4 hour snack

While we were at the Caprice on Friday we got chatting to the staff about their forthcoming ‘Wine vs beer’ tasting event. It’s a six course dinner, with each course being accompanied by an appropriate glass of wine and beer. Needless to say it’s not cheap, but we eventually agreed a ‘locals’ rate, and so last night we met Ali and Clare and prepared for the feast. We started with cocktails at the bar.

Here’s the menu.

And so it began. The head brewer from the craft brewery in Faulensee was there to introduce the beers.

Needless to say it was absolutely delicious, and we staggered home 4 hours later very content.

There’s a storm coming today, and we had to abandon our plans for a lunchtime barbecue at Männlichen to celebrate Julie’s birthday. Instead we ate our barbecue food for lunch and we’ll toast her birthday over a few drinks later on.
