Weather changing

After the blue skies of recent days we have some changeable weather. Going up high doesn’t really appeal therefore. The walking path from Lauterbrunnen to Zweilütschinen has been blocked by a landslide, so we catch the train down the valley and walk to Wilderswil. After a nice lunch at the Bären we returned to Wengen.

The clouds are thickening and it looks like we’ll get snow tonight.

Pies & more pies

Another sunny day, we went up to Männlichen. Val and I had a ski while Jim took his photos. Here’s Val in the shadow of a passing gondola.

Lots of people skiing today. Here’s Nick with his group of 12 Belgian kids.

These children speak Flemish, so nobody else can understand a word they say. They are very keen on learning English though, and a couple of them used us for practice on the way back up on the chairlift.

Later we popped down to Lauterbrunnen and had home made pies for lunch at the Airtime cafe.  A group of English lads have brought some Melton Mowbray pork pies with them so we’ll enjoy those at the Rocks Bar apres ski party this evening.

Mürren

Second place again in the quiz last night, must improve.

This morning we popped over to Mürren. Jim did some sightseeing in the village while Val and I had a ski. It’s a beautiful day.

Just the one photo from Val’s phone today as the camera in mine is broken. Here’s Val whizzing past a snowboarder.

Sunshine

It’s a lovely day and the mountain is packed owing to children’s ski races. Jim arrived last night so we did a little tour of the area. Up at a very busy Kleine Scheidegg this morning.

We caught the train down to Grindelwald and had a nice lunch. Afterwards we took the gondola up to a place called Bort above the village.

Quiz tonight in Rocks.

Wedding

Yesterday evening we all trooped into the church to see David and Nati renew their vows. In fact it was a full-blown wedding ceremony. Here they are coming down the aisle.

Naturally this was followed by a party of epic proportions in the Gasthof Jakober opposite the church. Here are Nati, David and Vicky. Pauli was behind the bar spinning the tunes.

Erik and Anna from Stockholm.

More merriment.

This morning we had a good breakfast and boarded the Railjet which brought us back to Switzerland.

Alpbach

We had a good night out with friends new and old yesterday, and today we had a look around the village. We’ve not been here for years and it’s certainly grown a lot.

The church is magnificent inside. David and Nati are having a ceremony to renew their wedding vows this evening.

Holidays

Today we are off on a trip to Austria. We get the usual trains through to Zurich, then we catch the Austrian Railjet train over the Arlberg pass.

The train goes all the way to Vienna, but we get off at Innsbruck and then we catch a local train to Brixlegg. Nati picked us up in the car along with Pauli and Vicky who had been to school, and we headed up to Alpbach. It’s very pretty.

We meet up with old friends for a few beers, then we eat. As we are no longer in Switzerland we can afford to eat like kings.
