Abendlauf

Today my run begins at the Schilthorn cable car station at Stechelberg. There’s a huge waterfall here.

I run along the valley back towards Lauterbrunnen where we have a nice lunch.

This is the last run of week 7 of my running programme. I’m not the only one running today, as here in Wengen we have the Abendlauf, or ‘Evening run’. This is a 7.7km run around the paths that encircle the village.

The kids have their own race, it’s 1.25km around the nursery slope.

Some of the mums run with the tiny tots. Here’s Beanie with Larina.

And now it’s time for the main event.

Beanie coming home.

Larina and Aliena on the podium – first and second in their age group.

Habkern to Waldegg

We’re up early this morning as some guys are coming round to sand our balcony. This is a noisy, dusty job and we’d rather not be here until it’s finished. So we make our sandwiches and a yellow bus takes us to a village called Habkern which is up in the hills behind Interlaken.

From here we can climb up a track high above the lake.

Eventually we arrive at the outskirts of Waldegg. It’s very picturesque.

A short stroll brings us to the bus stop opposite the village pub.

Later on, back in Wengen, our balcony is looking like new.

Run run run

It’s hot today, but I had a lovely run along the valley. Lots of glacier water in the Lütschine.

I arrived at Schilthornbahn a sweaty mess, but the run felt like a good achievement. Lots going on here as usual.

The Swiss are playing football tonight so we should have a good night out.

Interlaken

Popped into Rocks last night after watching Duo Centrale play at the Sunstar. Henri never disappoints – he was sporting a fox stole (It was an actual fox) and clogs. He’s Dutch, so we can forgive him the clogs.

This afternoon we headed down to Interlaken. It’s a beautiful day. We had ice creams outside the grand cafe on the Hohematt.

There’s an outdoor fan zone for watching the football at Unterseen. Might come down to try it one evening.

We bought some burgers for the barbecue at the Co-op and made our way back to Wengen.

Monday run

After all the excitement of the football yesterday we went for a curry with Ali and Colin last night, and of course we called into the Tanne bar afterwards. Ronald has an impressive selection of gins this summer.

This morning we headed down to the valley and I ran most of the way to the Schilthornbahn and met Val there for lunch at the new snack van. We finished our gardening job on the way back up to Wengen.

Uptown Lights

Super night out yesterday with Ibe and Beves providing the entertainment.

Up early this morning as we need to get our gardening done before the England game. Rocks is closed on a Sunday but fortunately we have the keys, and Colin likes standing in as barman. As I type this England are leading 6-0, so it’s a cheerful afternoon.
