It’s our anniversary today. 21 years ago we were in this building getting married. Needless to say it isn’t a registry office anymore, having been converted into (you guessed it) holiday apartments.
Up the mountain the weather is very strange. At the top it’s cold, windy and snowing. Lower down there’s a cloud covering the village. Here we are at our lunch stop just at the top of the cloud.
Chateaubriand at the Berghaus for dinner, yum yum.
Lauterbrunnen for lunch after a late start. Some of the old buildings down here are really nice.
We get off the train before it gets to Wengen at a place called Wengwald. It’s a steep walk up to the village, but lots of lovely old farm buildings to see.
Later on we meet Beanie, Sandro and Aliena for a drink.
We had a great day at Grindelwald yesterday, so we all decided to do the same again today.
Really warm and sunny, pistes got quite soft in the afternoon.

Good night at the Sunstar yesterday with Urs, Adolf and Fritz. I got a bell to play.
On the way home it snowed like crazy.
Today we skied down to Grindelwald, then headed up to the ‘First’ ski area. Fun fun fun in the new snow.
At First we met Sandra and Geoff.
Views from here are incredible.
The changeable weather continues, but we head up to Scheidegg anyway. It’s deserted.
We have a ski around but the light’s really poor. There’s only so much time you can spend drinking coffee in the Eigernordwand Restaurant. Val peers up the hill into the murk.
Can’t see anything upwards, so we head down the hill looking for a lunch stop.
We have a nice lunch at Allmend, just above the village. There’s a storm coming. As soon as the first flakes begin to fall we head back towards Wengen.
Outside the Tourist Office there’s a wooden garden bird which whirls its wings around in the wind. You can get one at http://www.windvoegel.ch This being Switzerland, prices start at CHF130 (about £100).
Had a very nice evening out with Jeremy and Emma last night, struggled home through the snow in the wee small hours. It finally stopped snowing at breakfast time, and gradually the sun began to get to work. The clouds sit in the valley until a shaft of sunshine warms the ground, then they rise, making the mountains look like they’re on fire.
We walk up into the village, and find that the council have already made a good job of clearing the streets and the railway platforms. Wengen always looks lovely after a snowfall.
Val wants to go shopping so we pop down to Interlaken. No matter how far you go down the valley, the Jungfrau still dominates.
Anyhow, the shopping trip was a success, and Val has a new coat (note designer bag) to wear to the pub tonight.
Had a good ski with Shaun yesterday, then put him on the 13.03 back to Zurich. Edmond left a few hours later. Popped down to Interlaken for a curry last night with Paul, Sarah, Robert, Jean, Ozzy, Geoff and Sandra. Good night out but I think everyone was pretty tired after all the skiing over the weekend.
It was snowing when we woke this morning and ever since it’s just got heavier. The village has lost its deceptive spring facade and winter is here again. Steve and Adrian left at lunchtime.
