No skiing today – it’s raining and there’s nothing worse than being up a mountain when you’re soaking wet. The weather isn’t bad news for everyone though, the shops have sales at this time of year and they do very well on wet days.

Last night was the dinner for the participants in the curling competition. As Val participated we get an invite. Nice dinner and all the teams get a prize. Here are Val’s colleagues from Altitude ski school.

This moring was a bit grey but at least it wasn’t snowing. We skied in the trees where the visibility was a bit better and had a leisurely lunch at the smart new hotel down at Aspen.

It snowed all night and most of today. The clear-up operation began early this morning.
All the trains were running late, and the big electronic board that shows which lifts are open wasn’t working at all. To top things off we had a minor earthquake last night while we were in the Sunstar.
It’s payday for ski instructors, so Val has to be at Scheidegg to collect her wages. It looked like a ghost town.
Stop press: it’s chucking it down again.
Another great result in the quiz last night – we won it on a tie-break. Drinks all round.
It was snowing a bit when we left for Scheidegg this morning. We met Adrian & Helen for coffee then caught the train up to Eigergletcher to have lunch. The storm came in while we were eating. The railway company has some pretty good machinery to clear the tracks.
Back down at Scheidegg it was like the end of the earth. All the lifts closed.
We headed back to Wengen without further ado.
The storm has passed, but it’s still pretty windy up high. Far fewer people around today as the school holidays are over.
The Venns arrived last night, but unfortunately their luggage didn’t. It finally got here at breakfast time this morning. Had a nice ski around the pistes at Männlichen.

Lovely curry last night, the good citizens of Wengen gradually drifted in as word of the opening spread around the village.
After eating we went back to Rocks, and the weather outside grew increasingly stormy. This morning the whole village was locked-down, with no trains or ski lifts running at all. On days like this you can’t get out of Wengen at all, and as it’s a Saturday this means lots of missed flights for folk who are due to go home.
The only good news is that we often get a heavy snowfall after weather like this. Fingers crossed.
High winds are forecast for Wengen today, so we popped over the valley to Mürren for a ski. Nice views back to Lauterbrunnen from the BLM cable car.

Alas, the skiing wasn’t great. Yesterday’s rain and last night’s frost have conspired to produce pistes that resemble an ice rink. Things will improve over the weekend.
Back in Wengen we have big news – our Indian restaurant opens tonight. No prizes for guessing where we’ll be dining this evening.
