More sun

Another early start at Männlichen. Georgia and Livvie are supposed to be doing their ski race today. They don’t want to do it as they say racing involves too much standing around, which is true. No problem, they can ski with us.

Ski ski ski. Fun and games before coffee at Aspen.

We met Val after her lesson and had lunch at Brandegg. The train takes us back up to Scheidegg.

Skied down to the Brunner for a few beers while Beves and Ibe provided the music. Bumped into Joyce when we got there.

Sunstar tonight for the grill kota.

Plus 1

It’s another lovely day. Val’s teaching so I went up early with Steve and Jan. Let’s start with a selfie.

We had a nice ski and a long coffee break, before I needed to get back for lunch. The Barrs ate down at Grindelwald. Great scenery over there.

There’s some high cloud today, and it filters the sunlight just enough to prevent the snow turning mushy.

Later on we’re off to Rocks where Duo Centrale are playing the early shift.

We grab a takeaway from Santos and scoot up to the Caprice for Uptown Lights. Adrian arrived this afternoon, so now we are seven.

Ski testing

Another sunny day, and another early start. Steve has some skis to test. To test different pairs of skis you need to ski the same runs repeatedly. The first pair were ok, but nothing special enough to justify the eye-watering price. We had coffee and a conference at the Berghaus.

We went back to the test centre and swapped them for another pair, longer and wider. These were a lot better, but the jury’s still out.

Later on it was curling with some of Ali’s guests.

A resounding win for team Barr.

First

It’s an early start this morning as we want to go to the First ski area above Grindelwald. To do this we get the Männlichen cable car up and ski down to Aspen. Coffee at 5 past 9 at Aspen must be some sort of a record.

Outside we wait for the bus to take us to the First gondola.

Meanwhile, Val is teaching at Scheidegg. It’s busy!

We had a good ski at First and a nice lunch at Schreckfeld. Beers at the end of the day at the Alte Post in Grindelwald.

Hot hot hot

Up early this morning to meet Jan & Steve and the girls. Georgia and Livvie went off with the DHO, and we had a ski around Männlichen and Tschuggen.

Stopped for coffee at Aspen, then caught the train up to Scheidegg where Val was just finishing her lesson.

We skied down to the Waschbar for lunch – the only thing they had left was bratwurst, but it’s a lovely spot on a sunny day. Moved on down the hill to Allmend.

We left Jan and Steve at the restaurant as they didn’t fancy bratwurst and skied back to the village. It’s unbelievably warm in the sunshine.

More chores

It’s time for the biggest job of the year, I need to clean the oven and hob. Horrible chore, but it looks good once it’s done. Thanks to Jeanne & Robert for bringing out the Hob-Brite.

Outside it’s a beautiful day.

It’s the beginning of the British half term holidays. Central Sport is absolutely mobbed with people renting equipment.

And here are some of those people – the Barrs have arrived. Dinner at the Silberhorn.

First world problems

Yesterday was Valentine’s, so off we went to the Silberhorn for our Chateaubriand.

Yet another beautiful sunny day today. Val got off to work early. Here’s the Scheidegg nursery slope at the crack of dawn.

When we get a long spell of nice weather we obviously like to go skiing every day. As a consequence, after a while the house begins to look decidedly neglected. Worse still, we end up with no food because we haven’t been to the Co-op. I therefore spent the day hoovering and scrubbing, and I’ll do some shopping tomorrow.
