Busy day for Val

Val was away early this morning to see her dentist in Brienz. It’s another lovely day here in the Oberland. Interlaken this morning.

And at the other end of the lake, from Brienz.

I caught the train down to meet her for lunch – delicious potato soup at the youth hostel. We got some shopping and I hauled it home while Val went to the bank to sort out e-banking on her new phone. Later on she has her Pilates class. Busy day!

Sunday stroll

It’s a pretty good day – warm if you’re in the sun and a bit chilly if you aren’t. We walk out towards Innerwengen, avoiding a few icy patches on the path.

The animals are mostly in their barns for winter now, but the odd one peeps out to see what’s happening in the world.

Patches of snow from the cannons on the slalom run. Sadly the snow looks unlikely to last in this mild weather, but there’s plenty of time to make some more.

Christmas is coming

We had a nice meal at Sina’s last night. Val has been practicing taking selfies with her new phone.

Today it’s dry, sunny but absolutely freezing. We’re off to Interlaken. Christmas shopping is in full swing, and everywhere is busy. Santa’s grotto outside the Bödeli Centre.

And a mini Christmas market outside the Co-op.

Snow, and snow shoes

Yesterday’s rain turned to snow overnight, and this morning we awoke to find a dusting on the terrace.

We popped up to the village for supplies. It’s looking a bit more wintry than we’re used to.

Our snow shoes have arrived. We’ll need a lot more snow before we can try them out.

I think the snow will be like British snow – it covers your garden at breakfast time but is gone by lunch. To be honest, outside of the ski season, snow is a bit of a pain.

Leiterhorn climb

We had a splendid dinner at the Cafe de Paris last night, so today we’d better do something to work off all those calories. A walk up to the Leiterhorn should do the trick. It’s quite a climb.

Views to the north – Interlaken.

And to the south.

We can loop back to the village on the forest roads – it’s a nice stroll.

A lovely afternoon in the sunshine.

Harder Kulm

Our summer passes are still good, so we can do touristy stuff. High above Interlaken is Harder Kulm, a restaurant and viewpoint. We get there on a funicular.

Hot drinks keep the cold out.

Spectacular sunset over the lake.

Once the sun went down we headed for the pub, and later we’ll have dinner at the Cafe de Paris.
