What a difference…

… a day makes. After yesterday’s glorious weather and super skiing, we hatched a plot to go again today. Ali has a day off and we met at the cable car station this morning.

Up to Männlichen we went. The forecast was for sunshine again, but the sun was conspicuous only by its absence, and the light was very ‘flat’, with no shadows to reveal the nature of the snow.

We slithered our way down to Holenstein, hoping for the weather to improve. Without the sunshine the pistes stayed hard, icy and generally unpleasant. The gondola took us back up to Männlichen, and we all agreed it was time for a coffee. If anything the light got worse, so back down to Wengen we went.

I’m on the hunt for a new ski jacket, but I can’t find anything I’m very keen on. This year’s colour seems to be green. I like my jackets red, so I’ll keep looking. Nice Easter bunnies outside Central Sport though.

A nice day up the hill

It’s another lovely day, and the village seems a lot quieter than it’s been lately. Time to go skiing. Up at Männlichen there seemed to be more interest in the barbecue than the skiing.

Good visibility from the top – we could see right down to the end of the lake.

We skied around at Männlichen and eventually made our way round to Kleine Scheidegg.

The snow was nice, and it’s not busy.

Non-essential shopping

It’s a big day for shopkeepers in Switzerland. Six weeks ago all shops deemed ‘non-essential’ were closed down, leaving us with only supermarkets and pharmacies. Today, everyone can reopen, so it’s time to hit the shops. We went over to Grindelwald.

Val got a nice jacket, and a thing called a ‘jupe’, which is a down-filled skirt for cold days. Back at home, the flowers in the garden are attracting visits from lots of bees and butterflies.
