We had a very nice pizza meal with Emily and Ali at the Caprice last night, and it started to rain as we walked back towards Rocks afterwards. By breakfast time the rain had turned to snow, although it stopped just in time for Val’s walk to the station on her way to work. It was pretty grim at Scheidegg when she arrived.

It’s time for a clear out. My eye surgery is complete and I can see very well, so this little lot can go in the bin. After all, there’s no going back.

I’ve no idea how I accumulated so many contact lenses, there were about 30 of them. There’ll be lots more back in the U.K. too.

There’s only one topic of conversation in the village today. Ryan Regez, half English and half Swiss, Wengen born and bred, has won the Olympic ski-cross. For such a tiny village, this is, frankly, unbelievable.

I think there’s just a chance that we’ll be having a party tonight.

It’s a mild day, and a bit dull down in the village. Up at Scheidegg it’s a different story, with high winds that have closed many of the ski lifts. Fortunately, the instructors who work on the nursery slope only need one lift, and it’s pretty much wind proof. Here’s Raffi getting off with the little boy she’s teaching.

I’m ‘busy’ at home doing whatever chores my recovering eyes will allow. We had a very nice sunset.

I made fish ‘n chips for dinner, and later we’ll have a stroll up to the pub.

Lots of fresh snow up at Scheidegg this morning. Aminaa was helping Val with her lesson.

It was very gloomy this morning, but the sun did its best to put in an appearance just after lunch.

Aminaa lives at the top end of the village, so she skis home to avoid the walk back up from the station. Val got this pic from the comfort of the train.

While all this was going on, I was down in Interlaken getting my second eye operation done. I’ll be back there tomorrow morning for a check-up, which probably means we’ll have another snowstorm just as I’m leaving the house.

The day started well enough when Val set off for work this morning, but it soon started clouding over. The mountains gradually disappeared.

It started snowing this evening. Predictably, I have to be down at the eye clinic early tomorrow morning. Looks like it’ll be another battle with the weather.

The sun comes over the mountain at about 10 in the morning, and we get unbroken sunshine until 4pm at the moment. It’s very nice to have a wander around in the warmth. Val is working full time now as the childrens’ holidays are in full swing. Obligatory Eiger photo this morning.

Local boy Ryan Regez is competing in the Olympic Ski Cross competition later this week. A nice banner in the street wishes him luck.

Ryan is the first Olympian from our village since 1948. He’s favourite to win gold. His race starts at 4.30am on Friday, and we’ll all be up to watch. No pressure Ryan!

It was snowing heavily when we woke up this morning – just my luck as I had an appointment at the doctors. The snow stopped at lunchtime, and we headed for Interlaken.

When we got back we tackled the problem of finding a table for dinner tomorrow night. The school holidays are in full swing and Wengen is packed, meaning the restaurants are very busy. The Silberhorn said they could squeeze us in, which is nice as we haven’t been there yet this season.

Later on the clouds began to part and we got a glimpse of the mountains in the last of the afternoon sunshine.
