Slow day

We had a lovely takeaway curry round at Ali’s last night.

Emily has baked me a birthday cake.

Blowing out the candles.

We tried our best, but after all that curry we could only manage half of the cake. Not to worry, Paul and Anne-Marie are coming round tonight so we’ll have another go. Today was a bit slow, but we did manage to clean the house from top to bottom.

Spring is coming

Val has a day off. She did her German class this morning. Alpine Choughs flying above the village. The view to the mountains is hazy; it’s that dust from the Sahara again.

This afternoon we popped down to Interlaken for shopping. Alongside the railway is a sure sign that spring is on its way – snowdrops.

At this rate we’ll be fetching our summer clothes from the cellar before long.

Larina has made the newspaper – she does this quite regularly. Here she is (centre) outside the bakery, who are selling special biscuits to raise money for the local children and youth association.

Fine dining

It’s mild again today, but without the sunshine that we enjoyed yesterday. In the meadows below our house the snow has largely melted now.

Val went up to work this afternoon. It was much quieter than it was at the weekend. The school holidays are over now, which should mean everything is a bit less frantic than it’s been lately. Quiet slopes.

While Val was doing her lesson I made a big toad in the hole for dinner. Nice!

Heatwave

We had a very nice evening out at Paul and Anne-Marie’s last night. It was an apero, which is an early evening event involving drinks and a few nibbles. The idea is that you socialise at the apero, then go home for dinner. Anne-Marie prepared so much food that we didn’t need dinner at all, and we didn’t leave until after 10.

Val was off to Scheidegg for work this morning, almost deserted early on.

Val’s ‘office’ – the nursery slope.

Slopes are in good condition.

Back at home, I got the shopping. It’s very warm, and I didn’t even need a jacket for my trip to the bin store this afternoon. Time for a selfie.

Valley walk

It’s another lovely day, and we’re off down to the valley for a walk. More signs of spring on the way down to the station at Wengwald.

We buy our lunch at the bakery, and catch the bus to the cable car station at Stechelberg. It’s really busy, with every parking space occupied, and a queue right round the building.

Fortunately we don’t need the cable car for our walk. For much of the day it stays dark and cold down here in the valley, but if you time it right you can have a walk along the river in the sunshine.

Or, of course, you can ski if you prefer.

It’s warm in the sunshine, and lots of farm animals are out enjoying it.

We’re off to Anne-Marie and Paul’s for an apero later.
