At last

A nice evening out at the Sunstar last night. Colin and Steve were joined by Chris on the cricket bat guitar.

To everyone’s relief, overnight a cold front arrived over the village. Temperatures have dropped to below zero, and it’s snowing. It’s still really windy, so Männlichen is still closed, and the few lifts that opened up at Scheidegg this morning were soon shut down. We stayed at home.

Interlaken later for dinner at a Lebanese restaurant.

Storm

A good night in Rocks yesterday with the return of our quiz. The new Inghams reps don’t seem keen on doing it this season, so Mike C has taken it on. We were third.

Today the dreadful weather continues. It’s plus 10 degrees and really windy. The cable car to Männlichen isn’t running and there are just a couple of lifts open at Scheidegg. The kids still need to be entertained, so they ski on what’s left of our nursery slope.

Thankfully the forecast says it’ll turn much colder with snow tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Cosy Corner

The mild weather continues, and now it’s accompanied by an absolutely biblical rain storm. The football pitch resembles a lake.

We’ve had four good years here at Le Manoir, but now it’s time to move on. Our hunt for a new home starts today, with a viewing at an apartment called Cosy Corner. It’s very swish.

The views must be wonderful on a nice day.

We have a couple more to see next week, and more will become available as the season wears on.

Quiet Saturday

Saturday is transfer day – the day when most holidaymakers arrive and leave. This leaves the slopes clear for locals, except the weather’s not very nice today so hardly anyone’s bothered going up.

The forecast isn’t good for the next few days, and it’s still far too mild. Fingers crossed it will change soon.

Warm

The rain that the forecasters had promised us arrived yesterday evening and continued through the night. It finally came to an end this morning, and then the sun came out. It’s very mild. Eiger terrace doing a roaring trade, very unusual in January.

It’s still chilly down in the valley.

The skiing won’t be up to much after all the rain, so we popped down to Interlaken for shopping. Wengen is in the shadow of the mountain when we get back, but up high the sun will keep shining for another hour or so.

Return of the sun

Rain is forecast today, but it looks nice enough, so up we go. Busy at Männlichen, so we head round to Scheidegg.

Stopped for coffee at the Eigernordwand. Bumped into Colin who was skiing with Carol and Chris.

We did a few laps around the Lauberhorn.

Eventually hunger got the better of us, so we skied down to Mary’s and got the lift up to Allmend. The soup was delicious.

More snow

Excellent evening in Rocks last night. Steve & Colin played for apres ski, but we were having such a good time they carried on until late. I popped out to Santos half way through and got a huge takeaway – yum.

Today it’s snowing again. The plough finally put in an appearance this morning.

The village is looking great. Toboggans are the most common means of transport when the weather’s like this.

Uptown Lights at the Caprice later.
