We had a lot of snow last night, but it had stopped by this morning. Val was up early to take Jim down to his transfer bus at Lauterbrunnen.

We heard some reports that Ibex have been seen at a nearby viewpoint called Staubachbankli, so we set off to have a look. Of course we see lots of animals at the farms on the way there.

We tip-toed up to the viewpoint, but no wildlife was to be seen. It’s quite a mild day, and across the valley we can hear ice falling from the cliffs. It sounds like gunfire.

The path back to Wengen passes Bob and Rachel’s, so we popped in for a coffee. Temperatures are falling again now, and it looks like we’ll get more snow tonight.

It’s cold, dark and snowing in Wengen this morning, so we jump on the train and head to Interlaken where hopefully it should be a few degrees warmer. Down at the lake, the kayak school have a nice big class. They wear dry suits, so the weather doesn’t really make any difference.

It’s about three quarters of an hour’s walk back to Interlaken Ost, and we picked up some shopping before heading for home.

It’s a very nice morning, so we head up to Männlichen. Val and I have a ski while Jim gets his photos.

As the day wears on, the temperature begins to rise and clouds begin to gather on top of the mountains. This is a sure sign that we’ll get a storm from the south later on.

Uptown Lights are playing again tonight, this time in Rocks.

It’s a grey, murky morning, so we head off for a wander down to Wengwald.

We caught the train down to Lauterbrunnen and met Ali at Airtime where we had pies for lunch. Hopped on the bus to Trümmelbach and began walking back down the valley. The Trümmelbach stream is completely frozen.

The Lütschine river is still just about flowing.

And here’s what happens at the waterfall when the temperature stays below freezing for a couple of weeks. A huge mass of ice.

It’s a nice morning, so we popped over to Mürren. We put Jim on the train and skied across from Winteregg. Chilly at the top in the shade.

We had another good snowfall last night, so the runs are a bit bumpy with lots of fluffy new snow. It’s fun to ski, especially when there are so few people around.

We had a nice lunch (fish & chips) at the Bellevue, and Jim went for his train while we skied back to Winteregg. A beer in Rocks when we got back to Wengen topped off the day.

Rocks was busy again for the quiz last night, and we ended up in a tie for first place with another team. The tiebreaker question was ‘how many episodes of Last of the summer wine were made’. We were miles out with our guess, but fortunately the other team were even worse, so we kept up this season’s 100% record.

While we were enjoying ourselves it was snowing outside, and we trudged home through a foot of the stuff.

This morning the bad weather has passed so we head up to Scheidegg.

It’s really cold and there are very few people skiing. Empty pistes.

We catch another train down to Grindelwald to see the snow sculptures. The fresh snow hasn’t done them any favours but they’re still pretty impressive.

Val’s dad arrived last night, so we had a wander out to Innerwengen. It’s bright and mild today.

The village looks lovely in the sunshine, but we can see the weather coming up the valley, and we’ll have snow tonight for sure.
