Warm again

It’s even hotter today, so we make our sandwiches and head for a place called First which is high above Grindelwald. Stunning views.

A path leads us towards Grosse Scheidegg. Lots of water coming down the mountain.

At last we reach the pass at Grosse Scheidegg. From here you can walk down to Meiringen by the lake, but we got the bus back down to Grindelwald to escape the sun.

Männlichen round to Wengernalp

We had a little barbecue last night to use up the leftovers from the day before. We were interrupted by a huge thunderstorm. Angela has some nice wet weather gear.

Today it’s really hot again so we get the cable car up to Männlichen and walk around to Scheidegg. The cows are being brought up to the highest pastures.

At Scheidegg we missed the train by about 1 minute, so we sprinted off down towards Wengernalp where we caught the next one.

Cooking & running

Yesterday was spent cooking. It’s the biggest barbecue of the season so far. Here’s my tartiflette before it went in the oven.

Hayley made some delicious chicken piri-piri, and Ali and Emily made cheesecake and lemon cake. Later we had a walk to the Sunstar. Moon over the Jungfrau.

Today is a running day. All my training so far has been based on time – for example a 30 minute run. Today I want to do distance, so we get the bus to Stechelberg. I reckon that after a warm-up walk it’ll be around 5km back to the campsite at Lauterbrunnen. Here are the stats from my watch.

A pretty good run, but oh dear, heart rate is a bit high. Not to worry, I never knew about this stuff before and I’m still here to tell the tale.

Fox and Badger

We had a lovely meal down at the campsite with P & H last night. Good food and very reasonable prices.

Emily spent most of the day baking in our kitchen.

i had a nice run around the village this morning, and tonight we have a night out. Up at the top of the village is a pub called the Fox and Badger.

This is no ordinary pub. It is part of Chris and May’s apartment and it opens maybe once a year. There is no till.

It’s an amazing place. After we eat it turns into an 80’s disco.

it was Ali’s birthday. Cake all round.

Great day.

More running, Uptown Lights

Got the bus to Schilthornbahn this morning. It’s a beautiful day.

5 minutes later Paul comes around the corner.

We run back to Lauterbrunnen in a new record time. I spent all afternoon cooking for Hayley, Paul, Beves and Ibe and we had a nice dinner around Angela’s dining table (our’s is too small for 6). Later on we had a good party.
