Kids stuff

Weather forecast very wet again today. We met Sandro, Beanie and the kids on the path back from Mettlenalp. Fun and games at Allmend.

And drinks back in the village. Larina loves the book about animals.

We were lucky with the weather – the rain held off until dinner time.

Mürren

The weather forecast isn’t great today, but it was dry this morning so we set off for Mürren across the valley. Up at Allmendhübel above the village we had a sandwich for lunch and set off towards Grütschalp.

The path takes us up to Winteregg where we often ski in winter. Further on we reach Dorenalp which is about half way.

Some of the younger cows are quite curious.

At Grütschalp there is a new downhill biking track under the cable car. It looks absolutely terrifying but needless to say it’s popular with the local kids.

We bought ice creams while we waited for the cable car back to Lauterbrunnen. 2 minutes later the storm arrived.

Sultry

Nice relaxed atmosphere in Rocks last night, with Akim providing the music. Lots of Pimms being consumed, as is the fashion during Wimbledon.

Today the weather is overcast but no less warm. Looks like the evening thunderstorms might be back later.

Hot

Very hot today, so no hiking. Popped down to Interlaken to get some shopping. It was even hotter down there.

That’s 95 degrees in old money. Anyhow it’s a good excuse to try out our latest home improvement.

The steak was half price in the Co-op too – result!

Männlichen to Alpiglen

Another sunny day, and it’s getting a lot warmer. Time to go high. Up at Männlichen we get the usual amazing views towards the Eiger.

A huge wooden cow is under construction. I’ve no idea why.

Val found some real cows.

It’s a nice walk down to Alpiglen. From there we get a train up to Scheidegg, and another back to Wengen.

Zweilütchinen

There’s a nice looking walk on the map that goes from Wengen down to Zweilütchinen at the bottom of our valley. It begins by taking us down to Wengwald. Spectacular views up the valley to Stechelberg from here.

After Wengwald the path leads us steeply down towards the valley through the forest.

Eventually we reach the bottom of the hill, and it’s an easy walk alongside the river down to Zweilütchinen.

Better weather

Yesterday was cold, wet and windy, but this morning the sun returned. We popped down to Lauterbrunnen and walked up to the Staubach waterfall. Great views of the village and up to Wengen from the top.

On the other side of the valley is a walk called the Lütschine Promenade. We pause under a tree while the train passes.

Rickety bridge on the way back to the station.

We end the afternoon with ice creams on the balcony, and as it’s Monday we’ll be in the Sunstar listening to Duo Centrale later on.
