School holidays

Val was off up to Scheidegg at 8 this morning to teach. It’s the busiest week of the season. After work we went for a few drinks with Erin and Michael at the Figeller bar on the nursery slope.

The weather’s perfect and the village is looking fantastic.

Aliena had a birthday a few days ago. She likes her new earrings.

Larina learned to take selfies.

Jim brought some children’s plasters. Larina insisted on wearing a couple.

Quiz tonight. We were soundly beaten into third place last week so we need to up our game.

Gloomy

The weather’s supposed to be nice today, so we head up to Scheidegg. When we arrive it’s cold, foggy and snowing. We have a coffee and the weather gets worse, so after a quick lap of Arven we head home.

The furniture that arrived yesterday needs to be built. First up is something the Germans call a commode. Here it is.

Wardrobe tomorrow.

Super day

We collected our furniture from the station this morning. In the village it’s cold and dark. Popped up to Männlichen to have a look and we emerged from the cloud into glorious sunshine.

The top of the cloud is about 1700 metres, which meant the last kilometre of the run down to Holenstein was basically in the dark, but hey ho.

Incredible views.

And a few beers for apres ski.

Visitor

It’s been another foggy, snowy day. The snow has been falling almost continuously since the weekend. Anyhow we popped down to Interlaken and got some shopping and had lunch at the new youth hostel by the station.

On days like this Rudi often pops in when I open the balcony door.

Snow show

Ski school put on a show at this time of the year. It’s basically an advert but everyone comes to see it anyway. Fireworks are compulsory.

Formation skiing down the nursery slope.

And of course some jumping.

Val has found herself a job. On the face of it she’s teaching people to ski, but an important part of the role seems to be carrying advertising.

Snow

Yesterday’s snow continued all night. It finally stopped just after lunch. We have to go down to Lauterbrunnen to make arrangements for our next furniture delivery. Avalanche beacon flashing away on the ski lift guide.

Driver’s view of the track as we stop at a red light to allow the goods train to pass.

A major clear-up is underway outside the cargo building at Lauterbrunnen. Val pays the princely sum of 8 francs and the guy in the office makes the arrangements to have our furniture sent up later in the week when it arrives from Germany.

Mürren

We enjoyed the cinema last night (Star Wars) and today we’re off to Mürren across the valley. The weather is overcast so the usually stunning views are sadly absent.

We caught the little train to Winteregg and had lunch. When we came out to catch the train back to Wengen it started snowing.

Quiz tonight, wonder how many people will brave the weather.
