Roller disco!

The pump track has been a great success, and last night Steve dressed it up with lots of lights for a roller disco. The kids loved it. Press play.

This morning there’s lots happening in the village. An outdoor gym has appeared, and a tennis tournament is taking place. Here’s Georg going for a low shot.

A little market on the Eigerhübel. Val bought some damson jam.

Tonight, we’re off to Interlaken to see some football.

Back to the lake

It’s possible to walk all the way around lake Thun, a distance of some 80 kilometres. We’re doing it bit by bit, and today we’re on the north shore. We start high above the water at Beatushölen.

Lovely views towards Interlaken.

We pass through a small hamlet called Sundlauenen, and eat our sandwiches at the steamer quay.

A weather stone.

Translation: is the stone warm… it is sunny.

Is the stone wet… it’s raining.

Is the stone white… it’s snowing.

Is the stone swinging… it’s windy.

Is the stone hopping… earthquake.

Is the stone missing… tornado!

We pass by a campsite called Manor Farm.

Manor Farm is where I camped in June 1978. 4 of us were on a touring holiday. I was 19 years old, and it’s quite possible that if we hadn’t visited Interlaken, all of this Swiss stuff would never have happened.

Männlichen walk

We set off up to Männlichen after lunch – it’s a really nice day. It’ll soon be time for the cows to come down, but for now they seem happy enough.

We head down towards Arven.

It’s blueberry season. The wild ones aren’t as big as the ones you buy in the shops, but they’re just as tasty.

At Arven we turn back towards Männlichen. The path leads us through the forest.

We catch the gondola up from Holenstein, and then the cable car brought us back to Wengen. A great hike on a lovely afternoon.

Spiez

Dinner last night. Corned beef hash with beans and fried eggs.

It’s a much better day today, and if we go down to the lake we should be comfortable in shorts and t-shirts. We’re off to a place called Spiez.

Spiez claims to be the most beautiful harbour in Switzerland. It’s hard to argue with that.

Val found some stats about the lake. Length 17,5km, width 3.5km, area 47.8 square km, maximum depth 217 metres, volume 6.5 cubic kilometres, altitude 557.8 metres, outflow 110 cubic metres per second.

We walk along the lake, pausing at a bench for lunch. We pass a fish farm.

And here’s our destination, the lakeside hamlet of Faulensee.

A bus takes us back to Interlaken. A nice day out in the sunshine.

Busy

We’ve had some pretty lousy weather over the last few days, so apart from shopping we’ve not been out much. At around lunchtime today however, the sun began to break through. All that rain certainly makes everything grow though. These sunflowers are more than 3 metres tall.

We have a busy afternoon. Our house has a lot of big windows, which is very nice, until the day comes when they have to be cleaned.

While Val is polishing all that glass I am busy in the kitchen preparing dinner for everyone.

Party time

Val, Michael and Aneta all had birthdays this month, so last night we thought we’d go to the Tanne bar and have a bit of a party. Rocks was quiet, so Angela closed up and came with us. A few pictures.

Ronald usually closes around 12.30. I think we finally left sometime after 2. Today it’s cold again, and we went for lunch at Cafe Waldschluecht. Formula 1 on the telly this afternoon.

Still cold

Super dinner at the Caprice last night.

Today it’s colder still, with a stiff north wind. At least it’s dry though, so we had a walk in the valley. Crossing the river at Stechelberg.

The water in the Staubach is being blown away as soon as it tumbles over the cliff.

A nice walk on a chilly day.
