The Apple fritter walk

If you’ve always wanted to know more about apples, then this is the walk for you. It begins at Holenstein. Along the way are info-boards giving you more facts than you could possibly need.

Crossing the meadows that are the Tschuggen ski piste in winter. Views down to Grindelwald.

We’re at around 1500 metres here, and it’s warm enough for livestock.

Eventually we reach Brandegg. The restaurant here serves apple fritters of course.

Fun facts about apples. They won’t grow above 1200 metres as a rule, and Gala apple trees are resistant to fire.

Männlichen

Popped down to Lauterbrunnen this morning – I had a longer run to do and it’s a bit flatter down there. After lunch we went and tried out the new cable car. It’s all very swish, with a spiral staircase leading up to a balcony on the roof.

Up at Männlichen it’s cold and there are lots of big patches of snow. All the walks are open though.

More folk coming up on the roof. You can only do this in summer.

Stechelberg

It’s a much nicer day today so we head up the valley to Stechelberg.

The valley is very green after all the rain we’ve had recently.

Ice creams when we got home, then I went down to the garden and did some more work on the Great Wall of Wengen with Angela and Damian.

Half way there

My running programme lasts 9 weeks, and today is week 5 run 2, so I’m just past the half-way mark. It went really well in cool, overcast weather. Later we had a walk down the hill to find the chalet that Jennifer and Rich have rented for their visit. It’s in a lovely spot.

Great views down the valley too.

Downstairs, Angela is building a garden wall, so I’d better get down there to lend a hand.

Week 5 begins

It’s dark and absolutely pouring with rain, but out I go. Michael doesn’t seem bothered by the weather and he gives me the usual words of encouragement as I run towards Mary’s. Wet weather seems to be good news for the lady who drives the red taxi – I saw her at least 4 times as she shuttled shoppers to and fro. Anyhow, that’s another one done.
