Another lunch out

It’s another lovely day, and we’re off out for a ski. Here’s Val heading for Holenstein with the entire run to herself.

At Tschuggen. A few more people about here.

We can get takeaway snacks and meals from the restaurants, but they’re not allowed to provide seating or tables for us. This results in groups of people sitting around on the restaurant terrace, which is surely worse than sitting them at suitably distanced tables.

We grabbed hot sausage rolls from the bakery in the village – they’re delicious.

Emily is cooking tonight.

Happy anniversary

It was our 29th anniversary yesterday, so we travelled to Meiringen for a night at the Victoria hotel. As guests of the hotel, we can use the bar and restaurant. Cheers!

The restaurant is superb – probably the best we’ve come across in Switzerland. Val’s mushroom soup had pumpkin ice cream in it.

She had lamb’s liver for her main.

We had a great night out. This morning we went for a wander around Meiringen. The Reichenbach falls aren’t far away, and the Sherlock Holmes connection is something the town trades heavily on.

We caught the train home, and we were back in time for lunch.

Hurry up and ski

The weather’s even better than it was yesterday, so once again we found ourselves up at Männlichen this morning. It’s impossible to overstate the magnificence of the mountains on days like this.

Round at Scheidegg, everyone’s hungry. Here’s the queue for chips.

We head up the Lauberhorn. The Start bar’s busy too.

From the Lauberhorn it’s a cruise back to the village, where we got burgers from the Figeller bar. We need to be home a bit early, as our landlady is visiting tomorrow and the place could do with a spring clean.

Another lovely day

The weather’s definitely feeling more spring-like, and this morning we’re off up the hill again.

The chairlift at Gummi broke down when we were 10 feet from the top. We dangled here for a good 5 minutes. The good thing about this was that it meant the slope down to Arven was deserted.

We had a good ski and a chippy lunch at Scheidegg again. On the way down to Wixi afterwards.

From Wixi we get the lift up to the summit of the Lauberhorn and ski back to Wengen. Beer at the Figeller bar on arrival.

Great day out in the sunshine.

Sunday stroll

It’s not a bad day, cold, but bright. We’re off down to the valley for a walk.

Slightly scary Easter bunny at one of the farms.

Sunday market in Lauterbrunnen. Lots of lovely stuff from the local farms.

The weather got colder and a few snowflakes began to fall. We were very glad to get back on the train back up to Wengen.

Toad in the hole

I managed to get hold of some British sausages from the butcher in Bern, so last night I made toad in the hole.

Ali carves it up.

Served with carrots, homemade gravy and a nice bottle of red.

Later on, Val beat everyone at Yahtzee. Today we’ve been shopping in Grindelwald. Val had a particularly successful afternoon, and came back with a nice gilet and a top. It’s been cloudy, but this evening after dinner we did get a glimpse of the mountain.
