No rain, but no sun either

It’s a much better day today. The rain has stopped, and we have our nice views back again. Here’s the Breithorn (3,780 metres, 12,401 feet) viewed from our terrace.

Temperatures are high – it’s 10 degrees, and we can happily wander down to the laundry and the cellar without a coat. Despite this, the valley remains completely snowbound. The days are getting noticeably longer now, and the dry weather means we can have a walk. Here’s Val outside our house.

New month, same old weather

January ended with days of rain, and February looks like being similar if today was anything to go by. Non-stop rain. Fortunately, Chalet Iltis is packed to the rafters with food, beer and wine, so there was no need to venture out today.

Hopefully things will improve soon, as the European school holidays begin next weekend, and the village should be busy with visiting families. Fingers crossed.

Quiz night

Emily has prepared a variety of cheeses, some dried meat and home made chutney for quiz night.

We munched our way through it all while we answered as many questions as we could. Here we are, along with the other teams.

We did well, and we won the quiz for the first time. It helps a lot that there are 5 of us.

After all the rain and snow over the past few days it was nice to see the sun this morning. Lots of skiers about.

Surf & turf

I ordered some ribeye steaks from the butcher. Here they are topped with a nice plump prawn and herby butter.

It’s windy today, and with the avalanche danger still severe there are no ski lifts running again. I went shopping – we need cheese for quiz night tomorrow. Cheese fans are in cheesy heaven in Wengen.

The weather is gloomy and mild – it seems very strange after all the cold and snow we’ve had recently.
