The weather’s ok and Ali has a day off. Up we go. Our luxurious gondola.

Coffee at the Berghaus.

There are very few people around, and the snow is ok despite all the wind we’ve had recently. Well worth going up.

Kaspar’s long hair gets him plenty of attention from the girls. Last night in Rocks it all got a bit out of hand. The basis of this creation is a plastic coke bottle.

This morning the storm was still raging up at the top, so there’s no skiing. The people from the hotel Silberhorn are building a big tent in our neighbours’ garden. No idea what it’s for.

Went to Grindelwald and had roast chicken at the Steinbock for lunch. Yum.
We weren’t expecting to be able to ski today owing to high winds, but things looked ok so we popped up on the cable car. Very few people around, and the snow was good. Sure enough the wind arrived and our gondola trip back from Holenstein was interrupted several times by gusts which brought the lift to a halt.

A better day than we were expecting. Let’s see what we get tomorrow.
Last night we had the fashion show at Central Sport.

The models are drawn from the shop staff. It’s very well done.

This morning everyone is off up to Männlichen to see the new lift. It’s busy, but now that each gondola carries 10 people there are no queues.

This afternoon we’re off to church to see the kids’ nativity. They did really well with a little help from the teachers. Aliena had the starring role as Mary.

There are strict rules about building in Wengen to ensure that the village retains its charm. Some of the commercial buildings however were made from unsightly poured concrete, and efforts are being made to disguise this. Alpia Sport have made a lovely job of their shop front with wooden cladding

And at Rocks, Angela has added a chalet style facade.

You might have gathered by now that there’s not a lot happening today, and you’d be right. It’s still too windy to run any ski lifts, so once again we popped down to Interlaken and got more shopping.

Fashion show at Central Sport later.
Yesterday was cloudy and cold, but it snowed all night so the skiing was good today. The village is looking much more wintry today.

Val had more staff training today, and I went up and had a quick circuit. This afternoon the sun is out and everything is looking good. The Figeller bar is being prepared.

Männlichen is due to open this weekend, along with the new gondola from Grund. It’s an important event for the area, but the weather forecast is looking distinctly hostile. Fingers crossed.
