Powder day

The snow continued all night, but at breakfast time things began to brighten up, so everyone headed up to Scheidegg. Val has staff training today.

It turned out to be a fantastic day, with well over a foot of fresh snow, and very few people. Despite all the new snow the cannons are still pumping the artificial stuff out.

Considering that there are still 2 weeks to go before Christmas, that was a wonderful day.

Snow

It’s a pretty dull day. We had a walk up to the Brunner and did our shopping. The Victoria Lauberhorn now has a big fondue hut in the garden.

After lunch it started snowing. We popped down to Lauterbrunnen to meet Jeanne and Robert.

Giger and Dorothee are giving curling lessons. It’s very popular.

On leaving the curling rink the snow was much heavier, and we followed our own footsteps across the football pitch to the warmth of the house.

Chase the sun

Sunshine tends to be in short supply at this time of year, but with a bit of luck we can plan a hike along the valley and enjoy the sun the whole way. Waiting for the bus at Lauterbrunnen, lots of sun here.

Sun too at the Schilthornbahn. Parapente pilots enjoying the warmth.

Down here on the valley floor it tends to stay very cold. Ice in the river alongside our path.

A nice walk back to Lauterbrunnen, and we were quite warm by the time we caught the train back up to Wengen.

Mürren

It’s the first day of the season for the Winteregg-Allmendhübel area over at Mürren, so we popped over to take a look. Hooked up with Julie, James and Emily at the top.

It’s really mild, but the slopes are quiet and we had a good ski.

Completely ran out of fuel by lunchtime, so we stopped for a burger at the bakery in Lauterbrunnen on the way home.

Amazing pink sky at sunset tonight.

Allmend

Whoever did the tiles in our kitchen made a lovely job of it, but needless to say made a bit of a mess. We spent the morning cleaning the flat from top to bottom.

The restaurant at Allmend has new owners, and it’s the grand opening today. We met Ali and headed up for lunch. Views back to Wengen.

The restaurant is looking great in the sunshine.

Traditional band playing.

As the afternoon wore on more and more people arrived. Our table.

Tanne bar opens tonight.
