Snow, again

Snowy and foggy all day. We took Shaun, Paul and Mark for a ski and watched England get beaten at rugby. No sign of them later in the evening, maybe they enjoyed themselves a little too much.

Apparently it’s St Patrick’s day.

Duo Centrale are playing their 100th gig tonight, and we were treated to 100 onion bhajis in celebration.

Happenings

There’s some strange stuff going on in the village. Dinosaur spotted passing the Crystal bar.

And I spotted these guys at Lauterbrunnen yesterday evening.

If anyone can provide an explanation I would appreciate it. Anyhow we had a good night out down at the Three Tells pub at Matten yesterday evening, and today there was a big storm which closed all the ski lifts. But no-one really cared as Uptown Lights are playing tonight.

A good time was had by all.

New snow and sun

We often get sunny days at this time of year – we call them Bluebird days. We also get overnight snow, which leads to a ‘powder day’. Rarely however do we get a perfect sunny day straight after an overnight snowfall, but that’s what we got today. We met Ally at 9 this morning and up we went to Männlichen. It seemed odd that we didn’t have to queue for the cable car on such a nice day.

It was practically deserted.

Where is everyone?

We skied until we barely had anything left in the tank. It did get busier towards lunchtime, but by then it was time to come down as Val is curling again this afternoon.

Snow

Very gloomy when we woke up, and we soon got snow which continued until after dark. Steve Donnelly is playing in Rocks and be likes to get people to sing. Here he is with Alison.

Appreciative audience.

I’m trying to get the hang of these selfies.

Chefs on ice

It was raining again when we got up this morning, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as our house is a bit of a tip after all the excitement of the last 3 weeks. The weather also gave me an opportunity to put up the picture that the Barrs kindly brought for my birthday. It goes well with last year’s.

Each spring the kitchen staff from the hotels and restaurants organise a big curling tournament. Andy from next door has a team but they’re 1 short so they asked Val to play. I’ve never heard so many different languages in one place in my life.

National Treasure

It’s fair to say that we don’t get a lot of celebrities in Wengen. This may be down to the fact that you can’t arrive in your Mercedes Benz, or perhaps it’s because the height of evening sophistication is a boozy sing-along with Duo Centrale. So it comes as a surprise to spot Mary Berry arriving at the station.  Here she is with Katie.

Of course Mary has featured in this blog in the past when she opened the Salcombe Crab Fest.

We do our recycling and amble down towards Wengwald. It’s still very mild and there are snowdrops in abundance on south-facing slopes.

Wengwald must be the smallest railway station in Switzerland, but there are still plenty of passengers waiting to be picked up for the ride down to Lauterbrunnen.
