Sunshine

The weather’s changed overnight, and it’s sunny but really cold. We slap on the factor 30 and head up the hill. Busy at Scheidegg.

Val gets a picture of the Eiger for her postcards.

Lower down it’s shady, snow cannons running. These things are becoming essential for maintaining the lower runs now the winters are less severe.

Lots of toboggans about today.

Website stuff today

We’ve spent all day reconfiguring webcams and servers for the new DHO website. Had the usual nightmares with the cameras, couldn’t remember the admin login details. All sorted now. Quick pic of the Wengen fire engine outside the club room.

Popped to Rocks for a few beers once we’d finished, then home for pizza.

The storm continues

Another stormy night, and the bad weather continues today. When I wake up in the morning I can check which lifts are open on the Railway company’s website.

image

You can see from this that the trains to Scheidegg are not running,  and most of the ski lifts are closed. Not the sort of day to be going up the mountain.
Signs of spring in the village. The cat likes this cherry blossom.

image

The cat’s owners live on the first floor. They can’t have a catflap so they’ve built a walkway down from the window.

image

These birds are Alpine Choughs. They normally stay high up in the mountains, but today they circle above the village during the storm.

Skiing for kids

For the second day in a row we have a storm.

image

Yesterday wasn’t too bad, most of the mountain opened after lunch. Today however the wind is much more severe,  and there’s very little skiing to be had. The kids of course have the nursery slope in the village, complete with a covered travellator type lift.

Once at the top they line up in a neat row, and receive their instructions from ‘Miss’.

Quiz night in Rocks this evening. So far this season we have finished 1st, 3rd and 4th, so we’re getting steadily worse.

Busy

Today is the first day that we get families skiing for the European half term holidays. This week it’s the French who arrive in numbers. Busy therefore at Männlichen, with Agincourt style confrontations the between families competing for tables in the Berghaus.

Not quite so busy at Scheidegg.

6 nations rugby started today. Crazy busy in Rocks for the England game.
