We had a lot of rain and high winds last night. This morning it’s cool and misty. Valley looking moody.

The Lütschine is an absolute torrent.

Further down the valley, Wilderswil seems to have been hit by a mini tornado. Lots of damaged roofs.

Yesterday we started our walk at Kleine Scheidegg, and today we begin at another mountain pass called Grosse Scheidegg. The bus drops us off and one of the cows gazes down at us.

The path from here occasionally connects with a road which is very popular with cyclists.

The river running down the valley is the Rychenbach. It is the source of the waterfall made famous by Conan Doyle’s novels.

Around 150 years ago the enterprising Swiss built a hotel near the snout of the Rosenlaui glacier. The glacier, needless to say, is long gone, but the elegant hotel still seems to be thriving.

Rosenlaui is the end of our walk, we deserve an ice cream.

It’s a lovely day, but as it’s Sunday all the usual hot spots will be very busy. We decide to try a slightly obscure route down to Wengen from Scheidegg.
Our favourite restaurant at Scheidegg is the Eigernordwand. Unfortunately it has been demolished.

Fingers crossed it will be rebuilt in time for the winter season, though it seems unlikely.
Our path follows a stream. We have to cross it a few times.

Views across the valley to Mürren from the viewpoint at Stalden.

And back to Wengen from a little further along.

Eventually we reach the restaurant at Allmend. We pause for a sandwich.

A good walk, and we managed to avoid the crowds.

It’s a nice day for a run, so we head down to the valley. Lovely views on the way up towards Stechelberg.

Bedlam at the Schilthornbahn. I’ve never seen it so busy. The queue for the cable car was well over 100 metres long.

We have our usual lunch of schnitzel sandwich, before refilling our bottles and heading back towards Lauterbrunnen.

Nice evening out at the Caprice last night.

And later in Rocks, Danny entertained Claire with some magic.

It’s August the first, which is Switzerland’s birthday. The whole village turns out for the celebrations. We begin with traditional Swiss stuff. As the day wears on things will get increasingly crazy, so here are this morning’s pictures, starting with Daniel from the Caprice with a splendid apero.
