We had a good snowfall overnight, and this continued through the day before eventually petering out after lunch. This afternoon was a mixture of fog, light snow and a few glimpses of sunshine.
It wasn’t quite as cold as yesterday, so we got lots done up in the village. Fish & chips for dinner, then we’ll be off to the Alpine Hotel for Uptown Lights.
Yesterday’s plan to go skiing was cancelled by the weather. It was a shocking minus 17 at Scheidegg, and that’s just too cold. It was even too cold to go to the pub last night, but that’s not really a problem as we’re always well stocked up with beer and wine.
It was just as cold today. Across the valley in Mürren, 1800 skiers were taking part in the Inferno race. Apparently it was minus 21 at the start. Looking on the bright side, having stayed at home all day, we have a very clean house.
It snowed a lot last night. A bunch of us had dinner at Mira’s steakhouse.
Later on in the Tanne bar.
The snow stopped sometime overnight, and today it’s really cold – minus 7 when I walked up to the Co-op this morning. The snow cannons are running at full speed.
We had a good evening out with Beves and Ibe at the Alpine Hotel last night. It turned out that the Canadian ski team were staying there. This morning they all piled onto the train I was on with stacks and stacks of gear.
Not much to report from today. I met Val in Interlaken after her gym session and we did a big food shop – our cupboards are always empty after Lauberhorn weekend. The good news is that the weather has turned very cold, so fingers crossed for some much needed snow over the next few days.
It’s Lauberhorn Sunday, and that means it’s time for the slalom race. Slalom comprises 2 runs down the course, and the racer with the lowest combined time wins. Great Britain have 3 competitors, and the best of these finished a creditable 21st.
it’s been snowing for most of the day, but this evening the clouds parted and we had an amazing sky for a few minutes.
The Lauberhorn downhill race is the pinnacle of our sport. Victory today means immortality in skiing circles, particularly if you’re Swiss. Last night we watched the bib draw from Paul & Anne-Marie’s balcony. It’s the best vantage point in the village.
Later on in Rocks. Val’s ski school trainees seem to get younger every year. Here she is with Roxy and Sophie.
This morning, needless to say, the jets are back.
Downhill day will be even busier than yesterday. Jana is working at the coffee stall.
I posted a picture of this food stall yesterday. Here it is again. The very sharp eyed amongst you may notice that prices have increased by 30%.
The race was won by yesterday’s winner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. Marco Odermatt was second, one of 5 Swiss racers in the top ten.
