Catching up

Not much to report from the last couple of days. Here’s Mike, our resident American consoling himself after the Trump inauguration.

Marching bands in Interlaken yesterday. There’s a music festival on all week.

Good party in Rocks last night.

Today was spent cleaning and watching Dave Ryding get Britain’s best ever slalom result in Kitzbuehel.

Later on Jana popped round from next door with a chocolate cake that she’d made. Delicious!

Drip drip drip

Another sunny day, and it’s getting milder. Not too busy at Scheidegg.

Enjoyed the sun on our balcony this afternoon. All you can hear is the sound of dripping water as the snow finally admits defeat to the power of the sun. The icicles that form on the sunny side of nearby buildings come crashing down every few minutes.

Off to Grindelwald for a curry tonight, must dash as we’re getting the 17.03 train.

Sunshine!

Very cold again this morning, but the sun is shining so up we go. At this time of year the sun takes its time coming over the mountain, so you can be skiing in bright sunshine one moment and plunged into darkness the next.

Val’s lunch is described as a steak sandwich. Biggest sandwich I ever did see.

Absolutely gorgeous this afternoon.

Cruising home.

Quiet day

Colder still today, and Val has an actual cold so we stay in the village. The sun came out after lunch. Wengen is back to normal now that the racers have left.

Kids having their lessons.

Ran into Beanie and the girls at the ice rink.

The clouds are rolling in and we’ll have more snow tonight.

Cold

It was minus 12 when we got up this morning, but we went up to Mannlichen anyway and had coffee. After skiing for a bit it became obvious that we needed to lose some altitude to avoid the worst of the cold. We skied down to a hamlet called Aspen above Grindelwald. The route goes through the forest and across bridges and roads.

We had some nice warmimg soup at Aspen, then caught the bus to Grindelwald where we could get a lift back to the top.

Back at Männlichen it was even colder than this morning, and it started to snow. We managed one run before we headed for the warmth of the cable car station.
