Yesterday we returned to our gardening job down at Wengwald. Hard work in the hot sun. In the evening we had an impromptu barbecue and sure enough it rained. It was still raining this morning when I went down to the valley for my run.
Not a bad run, but try as I might I couldn’t get my heart rate high enough, which meant I was a bit slow. Tired from the gardening I guess.
Barbecue time yesterday evening, Emily has made a cake.
And we needed a cake, because it’s Sheneen’s birthday.

We had a lovely barbecue, and the smell must have travelled because we got a visit from a pair of foxes. The female was particularly bold.
This morning started slowly, but I managed a run around the village, and we had a nice walk down to Zweilütchinen after lunch.
Entertainment at the Sunstar last night with Steve, Bob and Ozzie.
It’s a glorious day, so we hop on the train up to Wengernalp. The path takes us down towards a place called Mettlenalp, where we get great views of the mountains.
From here it’s an easy walk back to Wengen. Lots of berries on the trees. Harsh winter coming?

Jennifer and Rich left at lunchtime yesterday, and we had a quiet day. And it’s not just us – the village is beginning to get quieter too. The long trains that would only fit on the inconvenient platform 1 at Lauterbrunnen have been replaced with normal length ones, and we no longer have to plan when to go to the Co-op to avoid the crowds.
This morning we popped down to Lauterbrunnen as I’m due a run. Val has a bit of a cold but she’ll still have a walk. We have a lot of autumn colours in Wengen now, but down here it’s still very green.
I had a nice run – a new personal best for 10 kilometres.
The great event took place today, with 4000 runners making the trip from Interlaken to Kleine Scheidegg. Here’s Beanie.

Despite all the running I’ve done, this is way too tough for me, but we can still take part. Last night there was a mini-marathon down in Interlaken, so we went down and registered. Around 600 people took part.
Many wore fancy dress.
Val striding out. She completed the 4.2 kilometres in just over 37 minutes.
I went off far too fast, recording my quickest ever 1 kilometre split.
Running in front of thousands of spectators was quite an experience, and of course we got our Jungfrau Marathon t-shirts.
Jolly evening in Rocks last night. It was Lance and Jen’s 3rd wedding anniversary.
Today was a bit hazy and rain is forecast, but we popped over to Mürren for a walk. Great views as ever.
Nice lunch at Winteregg, and then a walk back to Grütschalp, with just a light rain shower on the way.
Jennifer and Rich have gone up to Männlichen, and we’re off down to the lake. I start with a nice run along the river.
Traffic.
The path continues to Bönigen, and I run through the village along the lake. It’s a nice 5 kilometres.
Afterwards we sat on a bench by the water and ate our sandwiches, before walking back to the station at Interlaken.
