Last autumn the people who ran our village bakery retired, and the bakery closed. Of course you can buy bread and pastries in the Co-op, but everyone missed the bakery. Happily it re-opened today. Last night the new owners held an apero, and the leftovers found their way into Rocks.

We ate some with our drinks and kept a couple for lunch on our walk today. Just below Wengernalp.

It’s a bit cloudy, but we get occasional views of the peaks.

Back in the village, the bakery people are making pizzas in an oven in the street. They’re doing a roaring trade.

After all the wet, cold weather in the UK it was very nice to arrive in Wengen yesterday afternoon to find the village bathed in warm sunshine. This morning it was warmer still, so after shopping and lunch we headed down to Lauterbrunnen for some exercise. There’s still a lot of snow up in the mountains, so the waterfalls are spectacular.

Val walked along the valley while I ran. We were almost at the end of the path when I eventually caught her.
