Giessbach

It’s another lovely day, and we’re off to lake Brienz. We catch the old paddle steamer ‘Lötschberg’ from Interlaken Ost, and it drops us off at a place called Giessbach.

From the lake shore there is a funicular up the mountain. We decide to walk – we’ll spend the fare on ice creams at the top. Eventually we reach the Grand Hotel Giessbach.

The hotel, however, is not our objective today. We’ve come to see the famous waterfalls.

We walk up the hill alongside the falls.

At one point we were behind the water.

We got thoroughly soaked, but the falls are truly impressive. They tumble 500 metres down the mountain before crashing into the lake.

We enjoyed our ice creams, and ambled back down to the lake where the steamer ‘Jungfrau’ picked us up for the trip back to Interlaken.
