Well that’s week 3 completed, and it was a really good run on a warm day. Saw some other runners on the way round and did an extra 5 minutes run at the end. My new, extended route is 4 kilometres long, so I’ll need to find an extra bit to add to it before long as the runs begin to get longer.
Wet Wednesday
Week 3 begins
Get up, coffee, a drink of water and I’m off on week 3, run 1. Lots of big puddles after yesterday’s thunderstorms, but with Michael spurring me on I get through the routine with no problems. Lots of other runners about today – normally I don’t see another soul, and then it occurred to me that it’s a bank holiday.
I got properly wet feet for the first time today, but it turns out this doesn’t actually matter – until, that is, you get home and have to clean up. Roast ham and some lettuce leaves for lunch.
Splish splash
The narrow lanes around Shifnal are ideal for running; there’s hardly any traffic and even farm machinery is scarce. Until that is, it rains. After a 10 hour downpour the primitive drainage is soon overwhelmed, and I have obstacles to negotiate.
Despite the puddles running is definitely easier in this damp, cool weather, and I had my best morning yet, with a sprint finish (!) up the hill to our door at the end. Week 2 complete.
Week 2, run 2
Shifnal in bloom
More running, week 2
It’s Monday, so that must mean more running. With Couch to 5k you do a mixture of walking and running, and as time goes on there’s less and less walking and more running. I managed ok today, and my sore thigh muscle seems to be fixed. With the extra running I need a longer course, so I did a loop along Lamledge Lane and into Shifnal before heading home along Bradford Street. Must remember to measure how far it is on my next run.
