Another Christmas market

A fine evening out with Michael, Laurie and Abby yesterday. Like all teenagers, Abby loves a selfie.

And later on in the Tanne.

Mist over the valley this morning.

Interlaken has its Christmas market at the moment, including the very popular ice rink.

Lots of stalls selling festive wares.

This is the third Christmas market we’ve visited this momth. The food and drink are the same wherever you are however.

Domestics

After all the nice weather we’ve had recently it was bound to rain before long, and sure enough it’s been pouring all day.

The day was not wasted however. We’ve ordered a replacement bottle-shelf for the fridge – it’s coming all the way from Berlin. Next door, Oskar has been having his first birthday party which means I can noisily knock a nail in the wall for the lovely photo of Geraldine and Daven that we were given in Soest.

Later on Michael & Laurie arrived from Heidelberg, along with Laurie’s daughter Abby. They came bearing gifts – lovely stuff that we can’t easily get here.

It’s a promising start to the festive season.

Quick morning at Männlichen

Good time in Rocks yesterday evening.  Tim likes to sing and there was no stopping him last night.

Val has a hairdressing appointment this afternoon but we still have time to get up to Männlichen for a few runs. View down to Wengen from the top.

Cruising down to Holenstein on deserted pistes. You can really carry some speed down here at the moment.

Ran into Bob and had a ski before he went for coffee.

Männlichen nursery slope is now in full swing, along with the champagne bar for the mums & dads.

More sunshine

Nice evening out at the Three Tells pub yesterday evening, proper fish & chips for just 10 francs.

This morning we started at Männlichen and worked our way round to Scheidegg for coffee. Later on we bumped into a few friends.

After a glorious run back to the village we enjoyed drinks at the Figeller bar on the nursery slope for the first time this season.

To add to the spring-like feeling, we hear a loud rumble and an avalanche appears though the clouds below Tschuggen.

Mürren

It’s a lovely day, so we hop across the valley to Mürren to see how things are over there.

Very few people around.

The Eiger manages to sneak into almost every photo.

Cruising into the village.

And back at the top ready for the run home.

We’re off to Matten later for fish & chips at the Three Tells pub.

Snowbound

The forecast was spot-on, we had the biggest snowfall of the season today. We eventually ventured out late in the afternoon and bought as much food (and drink) as we could carry from the Co-op. The village is looking great.

On the nursery slope a few kids are having fun. It’s tough for beginners when there’s a foot of new snow on the hill.

No takers for the deck chairs outside the Figeller bar.

Our Indian restaurant looking distinctly un-Indian.

Tonight we’ll have a traditional dinner of venison, red cabbage and potatoes. Fingers crossed for some sunshine over the next few days.

Overtime

Sundays are normally pretty quiet in the village, but the overnight snow means there’s work to be done. Clearing the path up to our house.

Not much visibility up at Männlichen this morning, but it’s always worth going up just in case it improves.

And it did improve. We got a few minutes of sunshine on the way down. Val has a new outfit.

We don’t need any more snow, but the forecast says we’re going to get some anyway. An embarrassment of riches indeed.
