Curry

8 of us went to Golden India for their opening night yesterday evening. Lovely food as ever, and the same nice people as last season.

The trend of alternating sunny and snowy days continued today – we had a day of snow. Lauterbrunnen looking very wintry.

We had a quick trip to Interlaken for a bit of shopping variety. Trains still running on time at the moment.

In Lauterbrunnen the cross-country skiing trail opened today. It follows the path that we walk in summer from the campsite up the valley to Stechelberg.

Arrivals

Good party last night in Rocks. Michael and Laurie have arrived from Heidelberg. Here we all are, with Tommy who also arrived this afternoon.

Very cold up the hill this morning, even with lots of layers. It snowed again overnight so conditions are perfect. Some dogs like skiing too.

Glorious sunshine on the way back to Wengen this afternoon.

This evening we have an important event; our Indian restaurant is opening for the season. No prizes for guessing where we’ll be dining tonight.

More odd weather

When we got home from the pub yesterday evening the temperature was about minus 1, and we were expecting it to get colder overnight. Instead the thermometer rose to plus 4, and outside the wind began to howl. This morning it was a bit colder but still really windy, so no lifts were open for skiing. It snowed all day, and we had to dig our path out again. Andy next door has started work at the Bären, so Val babysat Oskar while Jana went shopping in Interlaken.

Tonight we have live music in Rocks — yay!

Skiing

The weather forecast was right, it’s a beautiful day. Off we go to Scheidegg along with everyone else in the village. Out of the sun it’s really cold.

But high on the Lauberhorn it’s glorious.

The snow is wonderful, and we can ski all the way home on perfect, deserted pistes. A pause at Wengernalp to enjoy the views.

More terrain will open at the weekend and hopefully guests will begin to arrive, but for the moment it’s lovely to have this all to ourselves.

Dig for victory

We had a splendid evening out at Rachel & Bob’s last night. While we were eating it was snowing outside. Trudging back up the hill with James & Julie.

Today we dug out the path that leads to our front door. Andy did it on Monday and there’s been a lot more snow since then. The crazy golf course is comprehensively buried.

The village looks great, it’s a pity there aren’t more visitors here to see it like this.

It’s still snowing. The only people we spotted skiing today were a few groups of school children, but the forecast for tomorrow is better so with a bit of luck we might get up the hill for a quick slide around.

More awful weather

The storm continues. No trains higher than Wengen on our side of the mountain, and and none at all up from Grindelwald on the other side. We popped down to Interlaken for some shopping.

On a brighter note, we had a letter from the Jungfraubahn this morning containing vouchers for free coffee and discounts on ski services. This is very unusual!

Off to Rachel & Bob’s for dinner this evening.

Fashion show

Central Sport held their pre-season catwalk event yesterday evening. To be honest I found most of it a bit dull, but the bright spot of the evening came when some of the staff and their children did some modelling. Here’s Jean-Marc with his kids.

And of course Steve and Colin provided the entertainment.

It was minus 11 as we walked home from the pub, and this morning it was snowing again. All the lifts closed as the wind got stronger. Not a day for going out.
