Happy anniversary

26 years, but who’s counting? We went out for our celebratory dinner last night, and thanks to a gift voucher from Hayley and Paul we enjoyed an absolute feast of Chateaubriand. Cheers guys!

The forecast has been predicting a beautiful day today for a while now, and that means our local skiing will be very busy. Mürren is only 35 minutes away so we popped over there to find it very quiet as usual.

We had a late coffee at Sonnenberg, then skied down to the village and had lunch at the Eiger opposite the station. We’ve never set foot in the place before and it turns out to be just like an English pub with lots of draft beers and good food.

Weather improving

It snowed until the early hours of this morning and then the skies began to clear. Val starts work again on Sunday so we need to do a big shop down in Interlaken. Lovely views from the station.

The Easter holidays have begun and lots of families were arriving this afternoon. Fingers crossed for a bumper week for the shops, bars and ski schools.

Good day

Yay for the sunshine! Lovely when we woke up so we went up early and hared up and down Männlichen.

We met Colin at coffee time, then had a glorious run down the piste we call Rock Garden (I think it’s really called Läger, but who cares). As we got back to the top someone turned the lights off – it clouded over and we couldn’t see a thing. We pottered round to Scheidegg and things got worse, so we headed back to the village.

We’ve had a guy called Akim singing every so often in Rocks this season, and tonight he brought his mate Lorcan with him. Lorcan can play the trumpet, which is surely a first in Wengen.

It was snowing when we left Rocks, I can never remember such a snowy March.

Quiet Wednesday

The weather didn’t turn out the way we’d hoped today. It was bright early on, but the clouds soon rolled in bringing more snow showers and once again robbing us of our mountain views. It’s cold too. A good day for cleaning therefore. Val played her last game in the chefs’ curling tournament this afternoon – they beat the team from the hotel Jungfraublick.

We have treated ourselves to a can of Heinz beans from the Co-op (they cost 5 times the U.K. price), so we can have a traditional Swiss meal of fish fingers, chips and beans for dinner.

Scenery

There’s a mountain on the opposite side of the valley called the Bietenhorn. It’s 2755 metres high, so not exactly small, and our living room windows look directly up to it. We’ve not seen it since last Thursday thanks to persistent fog and snow, but this evening, just before nightfall, there it was. Firstly this means clear skies tonight and hence very low temperatures, and secondly we can dare to hope for some sunshine tomorrow.

A quiet day today watching the snow fall. Understandable really after last night’s shenanagins in the Tanne bar.

The last quiz?

We managed to get three teams together for quiz last night, but the tourists are thin on the ground at this time of year and it may turn out to be the last one this season. We were lucky to win after a dismal performance in the last round entitled ‘flags of the world’.

This morning the weather was foggy and cold – we stayed at home. Val is curling with the chefs again this afternoon, and of course we have Duo Centrale at the Sunstar later this evening.
