Eyeware

Colin & Steve played at the Caprice last night – Colin’s not played in here since 2004.

Stormy winds up the hill mean no skiing today, which gives Angela an opportunity to open Rocks early for this afternoon’s football. It also gives me a chance to sort out a problem. My goggles are scratched and generally worn out. Getting a new pair is quite a challenge as they need to fit perfectly beneath the helmet – this is one thing you definitely don’t buy online. I spotted this pair a few days ago and they turned out to be just right.

Quiz later.

New job

A good night out at the Fox & Badger yesterday, with a huge takeaway curry. Colin manned the bar.

Ali has matching top and socks.

This morning Val has a new job – she’s a holiday rep for Inghams, as Ali and Clare both have to travel to Geneva today. Off to the station to meet the departing guests and make sure they get on their transfer bus down at Lauterbrunnen.

Showtime

Sue and John from Innerwengen (owners of Biggles the dog) run a charity supporting orphaned children in Mozambique. Details here: https://www.missionmozambique.org/en/

In support of this, we’re having a variety show. The only venue remotely big enough is the cinema, so last night we all packed in.

We began, naturally, with Duo Centrale.

Apologies for the quality of the photos – it’s a cinema, not a theatre, so the lighting wasn’t the best.

Next up was Danny the village magician. Here he is reading Nick’s mind.

Steve D played a few nice numbers, accompanied by Anne on the violin.

And now we have Marc Rubben. Marc is a comedian and ventriloquist.

Nash, the hippy.

And the final act that absolutely brought the house down – Marc using Angela as a puppet. It looks a bit creepy but it was absolutely hilarious.

Around 140 people attended, and what with ticket sales, a huge raffle and the not inconsiderable profits from the bar, a lot of money will have been raised. An amazing night out.

Grand finale.

Gloomy

Fun and games at the Caprice last night, the reindeer gets all the attention.

Steffan knows that we’ll stay longer if he feeds us. These focaccias were delicious.

Val was working today. We had a little bit of everything – rain, snow, wind, but mostly it was just gloomy. Looking back up towards Scheidegg from Brandegg, not much to see today.

Cold

Up early this morning, the forecast is good. Skied all the usual stuff up at Männlichen – it’s nice and sunny but there’s a brisk north wind. View down to the lake.

We make our way round to Scheidegg and ski more pistes after coffee. Some of the snow is a bit variable after all the wind yesterday, but overall it’s fine. We skied home for lunch, and tonight we have the DHO president’s party.

Windy

There’s a föhn blowing when we woke up this morning, with trains and ski lifts all closed. Only the tiny tots on the nursery slope remain unaffected.

It’s school holidays in Holland this week, and the Dutch love their skiing. They wait patiently for a train that might never come.

Down here in the village the weather’s not that bad, so I decide to go for a run. My headphones seem to have expired, so I borrow Val’s and set off. It’s nice to be back on the road. I was lucky – as soon as I got back we had a huge snowstorm. The people who were waiting for the train will be counting themselves lucky not to have gone up the hill.
